Ruth, this morning I was discussing with my husband, your post about whether or not to use a catheter when a patient is incontinent.  It is truly a dilemma, and I think that a big problem in our society is that we are treated as machines.  The doctors (mechanics) try to keep the old car running as long as possible, and there comes a point when it just can't be fixed.

The trouble is that we are human beings, souls who reside in and around a body.  The body is like a house, a home for the soul while the soul is here to learn its lessons.  The fixers of the world just don't seem to get it.

Welcome back Jody!  Hope you get a new pooter soon.  May all of your angels and guides be with you to help you.

Recently, when my 92 year old father in law was being rehabilitated after having been hospitalized, he was in a facility that is connected to a nursing home.  He was having physical therapy in order to be able to walk on his own again.  Here is the interesting part:  He was being helped to walk on his own, but as soon as the physical therapist left, the nurses told him not to walk, but only to use his wheel chair.    He was able to walk, but was just weak and needed to regain strength in his muscles, and could walk very well when using a walker.

It was a struggle.  Whenever my husband would go to visit him, he encouraged his father to walk, but as soon as the nurses would see him walking, they put him back in the chair.

My husband was advised to put his father in the nursing home, where of course this treatment would continue.  I also believe that Dad was being overly medicated so that he would be easier to care for.

He is now in his own home and walking just fine.

Betty, for lunch it was a casserole of vegetables and red beans in a paprika and tomato base with rice and scone puffs.  Love, L.

Do you have any leftovers, 'cause if you do, I'll be right there!  Just kidding.  I know how long it takes to get to where you are, but that sounds absolutely scrumptious.

Okay!

Raspberry Smoothie

1 pint of raspberries
0.5 cup water (more or less as desired)
1 T honey
2 T flax seed oil
2 T low-fat organic milk
4 T low-fat organic cottage cheese

Using a blender, blend the raspberries and water together until it forms into a juice.

Add the rest of the ingredients and blend.

Enjoy!

You can also use strawberries in place of raspberries or try other fruits. Pineapple is good!

Bernie and Ruth, I like your variations on my recipe!

It would be a fun cookbook if we ever did it!

Betty, if you asked me a few years ago if I would ever eat cottage cheese I would've laughed and said "No way!"  But this smoothie is good. And if you stick enough vodka and chocolate in there, you'll forget all about the cottage cheese!

Jody, sending GINORMOUS HUGS your way!!! Glad to hear you got a miracle!

I think that it would be a fantastic cookbook, and not only would the recipes be healthy for people who have special dietary needs, but part of the proceeds could go to helping people to thrive.  I don't have the energy right now to begin to write a cookbook, but in time, I know that if we put our minds and energy together, we could do it.
