Dear Miracle Thrivers,

You and your prayers have done it again. You are all
truly in the middle of a miracle with your support, because
synchronicity has struck again
Wednesday night I just happened to go into a deli
I didn't expect to be visiting, and there on the counter top was
a copy of the New York times which I never get and on the front page
was an article entitled:"Medicare Rules say:"Do No Harm" with a
subtitle of " Will end payments for hospitals' errors"
I am officially dancing in my pants since medicine has become
such a bottom line business, where the focus is on the dollar rather
than the patient.
Medicare is now going to stop reimbursing hospitals for ten
preventable conditions and since so many patients go into nursing
homes on medicare funds....my prayer is that it will also include these
conditions that also happen in nursing homes ie.falls /traumas; manifesta-
stations of poor blood sugar control; catheter assoc.UTI's;pressure ulcers
etc.
The fact that Medicare is now insisting hospitals give better care
and pay up for preventable conditions, I believe is gonna be one of
the best steps taken for both acute care and long term care facilities,
if it is enforced in both. Since dehydration is the number one killer in
nursing homes, imagine if they start enforcing for that preventable condition,
think how many lives will be saved !!!!
On a different note, the strike has still not yielded acceptable
negotiations at my Mom's nursing home, so there is a chance that they
will be having an open-ended strike that will last one week to three
months....so your prayers are still very much needed and appreciated.
I'll let you know how things go, but slowly and surely I think human
medicine is going to be made to be accountable!!!!!!!
HALLELUUUUUUUUUUUUUJAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                     Big Hugs and Gratzi's,
                                             Jody

Jody,
Don't get too excited if Medicare stops paying for hospital acquired infections and other problems that Medicare tries not to pay for by blaming the hospital staff.  If Medicare doesn't pay for the treatment, it will be billed to the patient or charged to patients who have insurance.  There is no easy solution to this and the patients will suffer more because of this!!

ruth the law they are trying to pass would make the hospital responsible and they will not be allowed to bill the patient

Bernie,
You and I know who will be billed.  Medicare is always trying to get out of paying for medical care.  It's almost impossible to prevent bladder infections in patients who have indwelling catheters.  If the patient is incontinent and does not have a catheter in their bladder, the urine will cause skin breakdown, etc.  It's a viscious circle and there is no easy answer and I wish I had the answer!

Ruth,

I got excited because the article I read said the
facility would be held responsible for their incomnpetent
care. You and St. B, being in human medicine have
witnessed what they do in human medicine and how much
is being destroyed in quality care because of insurance
companies etc.......so I have the deepest appreciation for
your feelings and viewpt. cause your right in the middle
of it, I'm not. The article seemed like a positive in terms
of better care but it could all be schmooze, and the public
has no way of knowing.
I just know what I'm witnessing in the nursing home is
pure incompetency and lack of respect for the patients
and the truth...so I had hoped this might offer a possible
solution to an ongoing travesty, I'm sorry to hear that it
may not...but dealing with the truth is always better than
to be lied to as I have been for 13 mos. Thanx for the
education and I'll keep working and praying that patients
get proper care and respect.

Dear Thrivers,

After much thought, prayers and research ,a very definitive
move has been made to protect my Mom and the rest of the
residents at the nursing home. It very much involves putting
the cards on the table...and letting them know that virtually
no violations are gonna be tolerated at any level, and that
the residents are going to have to be number one priority. Obviously
for  an integrity based facility, this is a natural no-brainer, but
sadly this is not one of those facilities. Thank you for all your prayers
in making this decision, I know it was the right one because
I felt immediate relief after implementing it, and it has been
a very long, hard, thoughtful process. I can't tell you how much
your continued prayers to help keep the residents happy, safe
and healthy, would be appreciated. Hopefully this will be a start
of a very effective solution-oriented chain reaction for nursing
homes everywhere. Many , Many thanx !!!!!!!

Jody,
It sounds wonderful.  How do you plan to enforce it and are you going to share how you plan to accomplish this miracle?

Ruth,

This is going to be an ongoing miracle, because this facility
has no accountability and God is heavily involved. For the safety
of all the residents, I can't speak to the how yet, except to
say that St. B's friend Carmine is not involved, but his Guardian
Angel "Oh Sh@#$t" is.

A very wise Dr. said to me "when things don't make sense
God's involved" and he made his presence very well known today. So,
this is definitely a let go and let God story, with more news to follow ,
and most importantly an abundance of prayers needed for this
miracle in progress. Thank you all so much for your love, prayers
and support.

Dear Miracle Making Thrivers,

Pooter is still dead, but have just popped into the
library to THANK YOU ALL for your powerful prayers
regarding the circumstances at the nursing home.
The synchronicity of events has truly been amazing
and there are more people becoming aware of what's
happening in this facility.
There promises to be more pow-wows soon and
your BIG prayers are realllllllllllllllllly needed, so thank you
in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ruth, Good news!!!!!!!!!! Our local community hospital
is evidently taking the Medicare "Do No Harm" policy brought
about a couple of months ago, verrrrrrry seriously and the
patient is not being charged, the hospital is, so I do believe
big changes are in the air and there is a wake-up/shake-up
happening.
I truly thought for the last 36 years that I had been advocating
for the most defenseless individuals on the planet, but I was
soooooooooo wrong,....... it's not animals, it's the elders!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So here's to your super-prayers protecting both 2-footed and
four-footed individuals and nursing
home facilities waking up to the fact that WE DON'T DO THIS
TO ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
More news to follow soon and thank you all for focusing on this
unfolding miracle with your love and prayers

Dear Jody, I've been thinking about you and wondering how you are going, and I came onto the computer while waiting for lunch to cook, just to ask how you were.  So it is good to see your post.  We'll keep you in thoughts and prayer.  Love and Peace, Lucette.
