Hi there folks, If you are snowed in as I am I hope you are enjoying this time away from the work world. I had a mammogram last week that was all clear. On Monday I went for my oncology/hematology appointment (go every 3 months) and the wbc/cll count is on the move, again, upward but the onc actually used the word 'cured' in regards to my triple negative bc! I left feeling okay and wondering what I might now try on the CLL. Then yesterday my onc called at school and said my liver enzymes was high (I could hear worry in her voice). She asked me to stop my Chinese supplements and to come in on Monday for more blood tests. Needless to say even-though I should be an old hand by now in dealing with this stuff it does worry me some. I was going to go over to the Cancer Center (about 4 miles from here)to get my test results but I can't find my car in the snow just yet. I guess they'll keep for a day.

Gail,
You and I have been through so many tests!  As you know, lab tests can mean nothing and as in your case, might be caused by the Chinese herbs. I will keep you in my prayers and close to my heart.

Thank you both for caring words and very good vibes. I am doing my best not to get too caught up in this but it is a struggle. Not taking my supplements cold turkey like has my body feeling the changes but I still get up and get to school and carry on. Have a good week-end all.

Hi there, Well the retests didn't show much change and the various members of my team have different views - one thinking it is due to the Chinese formulas, another that it is due to the Choleast (red rice yeast)I take daily, another that I take too much D3....so on Thursday I have a CT scan..what I wouldn't give for a few boring years spread in between all of this.

Hi thrivers, Seems to be quite here these days. I think most of us are dealing with mother nature in some extreme fashion. CT certainly has been weighed down by a lot of snow. I always keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. As to my drama...The CT scan showed the liver to be okay but a cyst or something on an ovary. I do joke with my oncologist and I remind her that one more cancer and I'll have to find another doctor. Anyway, today I had an ultra sound and hopefully next week I'll hear that all is well. Meanwhile I stay off of all supplements still not sure what caused the liver enzymes to rise. Another blood test in two weeks and the levels should be down (fingers crossed). Then I'm back to being a test dummy (joking) working to LIVE with the CLL.

talking to someone from the group today and we said nice things about you
so one report is a good one. i told them i spoke at your school graduation a few years ago.

my test question: if i could erase all your memories of past events would you take the potion i offer you?

i believe this is from Rabbi Schneerson reading so many books hard to remember source

Man is God’s needle to sew the patches of creation into a single garment for his glory. At one end hard and sharp to squeeze through the ordeal. But the other end must have a vacant hollow, a nothingness with which to hold the thread. With the world we are firm and sharp. Within we know we are nothing before the infinite.

Gail,
I'm glad your tests are OK! I still think it was the Chinese herbs. Ask Bernie about my bout with black cohosh! It almost killed me! We need to remember that herbs are also medicine with a lot of side effects that can harm us!!

Take care of yourself. I'll say a prayer that the cyst is a cyst and nothing more!

The good news is that the report on your liver is fine. Will pray that everything else is okay, too.Look after yourself.

I have been on the forum almost daily reading the old posts and finding encouragement from every single one of you.I need that because sometimes fear grips me.It's then that I reach out for that positive input to allow me to see the sun still shines behind that dark cloud of mine.

It's very hot here where I live and the temp is rising daily. Would love to have a little snow this side. hugs to you Gail.

Blessings Gail and hope the ovarian "cyst" is just that.

Naveli, I hope you have some times of Stillness to help you conquer your fear.  I haven't caught up with all the posts so uncertain of your situation, but send you blessings of peace.

Char, stay warm! Get your kitty to keep your lap warm.

Ruth, yes herbs are "drugs" and often not compatible with the person or other treatment.

Bernie, had to laugh about you reading so many books!  Sometimes the sharp end of the needle goes into the wrong place and it hurts!  Man's actions can be the same when he/she is not mindful and peaceful.

Hi Gail,

I had to learn that lesson the hard way after the breast cancer diagnosis.  I will never know what caused those liver enzymes to go so high, but I was taking huge doses (under guidance of a practioniner whom I then bounced) but I had a virus too.  I suspect mine was the high vitamin A.  (But I was taking high everything at the time.)  Maybe I missed it, but how much choleast were you taking?  How much vitamin D?  I also take subscribed herbs for my CLL.  So far so good with liver enzymes but you never know how these combinations affect us.  What does your natural doctor think?  The first guy I had just didn't know enough.
15 years ago, there wasn't much out there in the alternative field in Virginia.  They still work very hard to keep out naturopaths and that's why I see one in Connecticut.   I too ended up with Cat scans 13 years ago which showed nothing.
It is a stressful road for those of us who choose a path that is different.
But that path has kept me going all these years.   With triple negative there is not much choice in treatment.  With my invasive ductal two 1.5 cm tumors 15 years ago this year (stage one), even my current oncologist said I made all the right decisions.
I would have had cll 13 years ago if I had listened and taken the chemo.  My angel, inner voice, or whatever you want to call it told me medicine was going to kill me.  So I said NO.  But I did follow up with medical treatment of oophorectomy which had studies behind that treatment.  Everyone has different stats that is for sure.  And different types of course even with CLL.

Where to start...thank you all for the thoughts and comments.
Bernie..tough question...I wouldn't want my past erased; too much there that formed who I am today (for better or worse)..
Ruth and Marilyn..my D level was high normal(I think I was told 80). I was taking 1800mg of Choleast daily, and my Chinese herbs which included astragalus. I have stopped everything and have also had an ultrasound. I am set for more blood-work this Thursday and my oncologist sent all this test info and pictures to my gynecologist (who I will try and talk to tomorrow). The last blood work showed the liver enzymes to be a bit lower but still very high. I feel generally okay! So I'm sticking with that.
With love, Gail
